Dietary Preparation
Day before the test (24 hours prior):
Eat only low-residue foods (plain white rice, chicken, fish, eggs, clear broth)
• Avoid high-fiber foods (vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains)
• No dairy, alcohol, or carbonated drinks
12 hours before the test:
Begin fasting (no food, no drink except water)
Do not chew gum, smoke, or sleep during the test (napping can alter breath samples)
Medication Restrictions
4 weeks before test:
o Stop antibiotics, probiotics, and herbal antimicrobials (unless your doctor advises otherwise)
1 week before test:
• Avoid laxatives, fiber supplements, and bowel prep solutions
Day of test:
Do not take prokinetics or promotility agents
Arrive fasting (only water allowed)
